Shannon Smith, a graduate student in George Mason Â鶹¹ú²ú’s Kinesiology Program, is pioneering a transformative health and wellness education initiative in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe. Smith’s six-month community wellness program consists of health and wellness education for a cohort of 20 women.

Wrongful convictions can upend lives, particularly those of high schoolers, and can result in students becoming part of the school-to-prison pipeline. Talley Bettens, a doctoral candidate in George Mason Â鶹¹ú²ú’s Department of Criminology, Law and Society, seeks to trace this issue to its roots: adolescent behavior and environment. 

With state-of-the-art teaching labs and fabrication facilities, the Life Sciences Engineering Building (LSEB) lets students and faculty get their hands dirty in this brand-new multiuse active learning space. The ribbon cutting didn’t officially happen until March 27, but LSEB already experienced a housewarming.

Over spring break, members of the International Relations Policy Task Force visited the U.S.-Mexico border for a firsthand look at immigration issues.

The new College of Visual and Performing Arts special topics course AVT 496 focuses on furniture design and is offered through the university’s School of Art. As a part of the course, the students will tour the National Gallery of Art and put what they’ve learned to practice by identifying and recommending ways to create a more welcoming environment for people to experience the art.

Associate Professor Kenneth Strazzeri's innovative teaching methods and curriculum tweaks significantly improved student engagement and success in George Mason Â鶹¹ú²ú's STAT 250 course, resulting in an impressive 80% attendance rate across its sections and a strong foundation in statistical concepts for nearly one thousand students each semester.

Assistant Professor Tanvir Arafin's course on transportation security led George Mason students to excel in the National Transportation Cybersecurity Competition, showcasing the effectiveness of integrating real-world challenges into academic curricula.

The George Mason men's wrestling team was represented by three individuals—DJ McGee, Kaden Cassidy, and Malachi DuVall—at the 2025 NCAA Division I Men's Wrestling Championships at Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia this weekend.
