The first Mason Day took place four years before the university’s first Commencement, and it’s been the event to look forward to ever since.

Sponsored by the Institute for a Sustainable Earth (ISE) and the Business for a Better World Center, the 17 Rooms-U produced dozens of ideas, some of which were combined during follow-up conversations. Groups championing those ideas are now receiving up to $5,000 in seed money to implement their sustainability plans.

Researchers from the Schar School of Policy and Government’s Center for Advancing Correctional Excellence! and the College of Health and Human Services are translating research into actionable guidelines to help probation officers support their clients to achieve better outcomes.

Sindhu Mallala's mission to study health informatics fueled her move to America to gain a deeper understanding of how technology can transform the way health systems operate, especially in storing, managing, and accessing critical patient data more quickly and securely. While at Mason, Mallala pursued opportunities that gave her insight into just how impactful technology can be—not just for hospital operations but also for training the next generation of health care providers.

Ingrid Guerra-López, PhD has been named the next dean of the College of Education and Human Development (CEHD) at George Mason Â鶹¹ú²ú. She will assume this role on July 1, 2022.

Michelle Vassallo (MHA '15) led a team of infectious disease prevention specialists, physicians, pharmacists, and researchers at Inova Health System to develop and execute a plan to distribute 100,000 vaccines in just 53 days. To do this, Vassallo and her team of nearly 30 public health professionals reimagined how their hospital system could fight the pandemic while keeping everyone's safety top of mind. In recognition of her achievements and contributions, Vassallo has been named 2022 College of Health and Human Services Alumna of the Year.

George Mason alum Marc Christensen (MS in Electrical Engineering, 1998; PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering, 2001) will become the 17th president of Clarkson Â鶹¹ú²ú.

Mason professor Kerri LaCharite writes and teaches about sustainable food systems, urban agriculture and the effects of agriculture-based learning on eating behaviors.

A new exhibition of original art commissioned to illustrate a book-length report by Schar School Professor J.P. Singh will be unveiled April 29, followed by a keynote from the ambassador from Tanzania and a panel discussion.
