George Mason �鶹���� capped its 50th anniversary year by honoring more than 5,000 graduates at Winter Commencement, celebrating an esteemed class that bridges Mason to its second half-century as an independent university.

Mason alum Gregory Fowler, president of �鶹���� of Maryland Global Campus, was the 2022 Winter Commencement speaker. These are his remarks as prepared for delivery on December 15, 2022.

This year’s Winter Commencement student speaker is Yasmin Alamin, who is graduating this December with a bachelor of science in mechanical engineering.

More than 5,000 students will graduate with degrees or certificates in Mason’s Winter Commencement ceremony at 10 a.m. today at EagleBank Arena.

For her Master of Health Administration capstone, George Mason �鶹���� graduate student Akshaya Chinnathevar Ramesh is interning at The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) on Capitol Hill and working with a team of analysts working on required reports to Congress on the effects of the No Surprise Act.

Mason researchers Jeffrey Moran in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Rémi Veneziano in the Department of Bioengineering, and Monique van Hoek, a microbiologist in the School of Systems Biology, won the NBIB R21 Trailblazer award. The team will research methods to dissolve harmful biofilms.

Gurdip Singh is the divisional dean of George Mason �鶹����’s new School of Computing and a professor in the College of Engineering and Computing. He officially joined Mason on August 1, he is currently on assignment to the National Science Foundation. He will join Mason full-time in January 2023.

During his time at Mason, Isaiah Epps burnished his résumé with internships at the Federal Aviation Administration and the Jacobs Engineering Group.

Managers often struggle to motivate their teams, but that could be because they’re looking in the wrong place. Mason School of Business professor Shora Moteabbed believes that how employees relate to one another on a one-to-one basis is key to understanding—and influencing—workplace behavior.

Honors College student James Condo has trained in the emerging field of Next System Studies, which involves research into questions of systemic design, change, and movements.

Faculty, staff, and students from three units across Mason have worked together to create a new VR experience so elementary students can take a “field trip” to the Mason apiary and learn from an expert beekeeper.
